San Diego Bloggers MeetUp

Have you ever been to a Meetup? No? Up until last Thursday, me neither. I had heard of Meetup.com, an online community connecting people with similar interests to literally “meet up” throughout the community. There are Meetup groups for people who love hiking, motorcycles, writing, videogames, and more. If you can think of it, there’s probably already a group meeting in your community. If not, you can start it.

A few months ago I joined the website to hopefully meet more bloggers in my area. It’s been amazing going through this whole blogging journey with one of my best friends, Katie from Unwritten. But I also know it’s important to network and meet other similar bloggers, as well as bloggers with a completely different agenda. It’s always refreshing to get a completely new view on something. Especially when you can meet in person. As much as I love this world wide web, there is nothing that beats meeting face to face with someone. Shaking their hand and looking them straight in the eye.

So, last Thursday I headed off to my very first Meetup with the San Diego Bloggers group. Since it was put on by bloggers it was, of course, FABULOUS! The event was located in Del Mar at the Sammy’s Wood FiredPizza. There were delicious appetizers and even “blogtinis” sponsored by BareMixers and Svedka Vodka. I don’t drink often, and when I do it’s usually a glass of wine or sangria, but on occasion, I love a good cocktail. And let me tell you, these little blogtinis were delicious. It had been years since I’ve been to Sammy’s and I don’t know why! The food was incredible. They served little breaded artichoke hearts, kobe beef sliders, and pizza galore. My favorite pizza? Brie cheese with truffle oil. Need I say more? It was complete decadence.

Even with the glitz and glam of free food and drinks, the best part of the night was meeting so many amazing bloggers. I was nervous before the event. I’m a bit of an introvert, especially in these types of situations, and going into it I did not know a single person. But within minutes I had met so many great people – bloggers, people who work with bloggers, friends of bloggers. All with such interesting walks of life, coming together to meet up. It was incredible. More to come of the specifics of who I met later. A few new food and baking blogs, a delightful lifestyle blog, and more.

Would you ever go to a MeetUp group? Or if you have, did you like it?

  1. oh I SO SO SO Wish that there was something like that around here. I love in the middle of nowhere in Maine. I'm pretty sure there are 10 bloggers within a 50 mile radius. A blogtini sounds so cute! I think its so great you got to meet so many amazing bloggers!
